POW! (Problem of the Week 6) 5/9/2011

Read the following problem. Post a solution AND a specific explanation of how you found your answer. The first correct post and explanation (by Friday's math class) will earn $5.00 towards your math class checkbooks. Good luck!

Joey Ordering and Michael Millimeters are great at fundraising! Their goal is to raise enough money to have a math party with food, drinks and prizes. They have collected 6,000 aluminum cans to bring to the recycling center. If the recycling center pays $2.00 for 500 cans, how much money did Joey and Michael raise altogether? Do you think that is enough money for a math party?

  1. 24 dollars. I think that they would be able to have a party because 24 dollars is alot of money.

  2. i think the answer is 24!
    my work:
you first divide 500 by 6,000 and get 12. you then multiply $2.00 by 12 and get $24!

but i do not think $24 is enough to make a perty but it realy depends on how many people are going!
