POW! (Problem of the Week 7) 5/23/2011

Read the following problem. Post a solution AND a specific explanation of how you found your answer. The first correct post and explanation (by Thursday's math class-no school Friday) will earn $5.00 towards your math class checkbooks. Good luck!

Katelyn Kilograms, Madison Multiplication and Kelcie Kilometers are going for a long walk together to get to the beach. It takes one hour for them to get to the beach from Katelyn's house. They walk for ten minutes and then stop to buy soda. After walking another fifteen minutes, they stop for ice cream cones. In another fifteen minutes they stop to pick up Megan Millimeters. What fraction of the trip had they completed when they stopped to pick up Megan?

    My work:
you first add 10+15+15=40 so then i know an hour is 60min. so it would be 40/60 but you can redouse that to 4/6 and then that can be redoused too so 4/6 is = to 2/3 and then i know that i can not redouse that anymore because 2 does not go into 3 equely. and that is how i got my answer!
